Wylye Valley Walking - wild orchids

After two hot weeks in Cornwall and two wet weeks in the Cotswolds it was good to get back home to West Wiltshire and tramp the downs with our Springer Spaniel, Phoebe.

What a difference a month makes - I left hills covered in cowslips and vetch with the odd 'early purple orchid' and returned to find them festooned with orchids.Today the hills were covered with spotted, fragrant and bee orchids with white helleborines in the woods. The last of the twayblades and frog orchids have disappeared and a couple of weeks should see the pyramid orchids arrive.

The flowers should be wonderful for our Wylye Valley walking weekend, 13 - 15 June
