Then There Were More

Purple Orchids on Scratchbury Hill 
After discovering the first wild orchid of the year on Cotley Hill, it was only a matter of time before they appeared at the local 'hotspot' on Scratchbury Hill. A very good display this year as there has been a good deal of 'land management' going on, mostly the cutting back of the excessive growth of Hawthorn. Hawthorn has been proliferating because of a lack of grazing, but the chalk downs of the Wylye Valley are looking fantastic this year.
