One Last Blaze of Colour

Stourhead Gardens - Heather Newman

Fungi at Stourhead - Heather Newman

We love autumn. A season of plenty where nature gives us one last intense blaze of fruitfulness and colour before winter sets in.

One of the best places in our locality to experience this wonderful show is Stourhead estate. Visitors flood in to see the spectacular autumn tints among the Acers and Beeches in their superb setting around the lake. A walk through the woods with their leafy carpet reveals a wonderful collection of fungi.

Round this off with a hearty meal made from local Wiltshire produce and a pint of local ale in the Spread Eagle Inn at Stourton and you have a perfect day!

Our daughter Heather and her friend Anne recenty did just that and produced the photographs above.

The Spread Eagle is the base for our Deverills Valley and Stourhead short break.
