In Search of Manderley

Seaside villa, Port Mellon
After two recent trips to Cornwall, we've spent a fair bit of time in 'Daphne Du Maurier's Cornwall', the beautiful area on the southern coast between St Mawes and Fowey. This very special stretch of coastline takes in 'the Roseland' and the stunning villages of Gorran Haven, Port Mellon and Mevagissey.

The most famous of the novels set on this stretch of coast is, of course, Rebecca and there have been interesting discussions whilst in the area as to what people's perception of Rebecca's house (Manderley) might be. This is the beauty of the written word, we all have our own individual interpretations.

Well, for what its worth, the beautiful property pictured above fulfills my vision of Manderley quite nicely! Many of my fellow hikers had something far more 'baronial' in mind!

There are a number of images from our recent Cornwall trips on the Footpath Holidays facebook page. Please follow the link.
