The mine of Moria or Stow Church
Many people believe that this low door in the side of the church at Stow-on-the-Wold was Tolkien's inspiration for the entrance to the Mines of Moria. The two yew trees have actually grown into the stonework. The church itself dates to the 12th century but on internal inspection did not contain a 'Balrog' and we were not molested by orcs!

Stow was the final visit of the Cotswold itinerary for our current Roadscholar group and followed a lovely walk from Naunton to Bourton-on-the-Water along the Warden's Way.

We have now moved on to Cornwall.
